Metlakatla is located on Annette Island south of Ketchikan and is the only Indian Reserve in the State of Alaska. Since there's no connection to the mainland, the only way to arrive is by small plane or boat (i.e. ferry, private vessels or cruise ships).

 

Laughing Berry Companies recommends you fly from Ketchikan via floatplane as this is the quickest and most direct route to the town. There are two options, Taquan Air or Pacific Airways. It's a 10 minute flight over the beautiful Pacific Ocean to Annette Island and Metlakatla.

 

 

Metlakatla now has its own daily ferry service provided by the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry System with two round trips per day between Annette Bay and Ketchikan. While this is an economical option, it does require a 15 mile shuttle to Metlakatla Indian Community from the Annette Bay Terminal. Metlakatla/Annette Bay Car Rentals also offers a shuttle service to and from Metlakatla and Annette Bay. Shuttle fares are $20 one way for one person; over one person $10 each, one way.
