Visiting Metlakatla
How to get to Metlakatla
Metlakatla is on an island that is not connected to the mainland in any way. Therefore the only way to get here is by small plane or boat (ferry, private ships or cruise ships). Laughing Berry Tours recommends you fly from Ketchikan or Ketchikan International Airport with ProMech Air on one of their Cessnas, Beavers or deHavilland Otters. The flight is about ten minutes in duration over the beautiful Pacific Ocean to Annette Island and Metlakatla.
Call ProMech at their toll-free number 1-800-860-3845 or visit their website, www.promechair.com for reservations and information.
Another way to get here is by the Alaska ferry. Call the Alaska ferry at their toll-free number at 1-800-642-0066 or make reservations online at www.alaska.gov/ferry.
Metlakatla now has its own daily ferry shuttle service providing two roundtrips a day
between Metlakatla and Ketchikan. The ferry “Lituya” was placed into service in midyear
2004 with space for about 23 vehicles. Currently the first ferry arrives in Ketchikan at
10:30 a.m. Thursday through Monday. There is no service on Tuesday or Wednesday.
